In 1869 this spot belonged to a woodwork society called "Menuiserie Held" until 1984.
At this time a dance troop called "Dancers" were renting part of the premises and named the place "Espace Dancers". It is said that some artists as François Silvant, who unfortunaly passed away in June 2007, started their career here. Some local musicians and bands would join, rehearse there and share the rent. The NED story starts now....
The "Dancers" went bankrupt after a bad management. Two young guys took over the empty space and named the new place "Nouvel Espace Dancers" (NED). The first gig was performed there in May 24th 1994.
Until June 1995, a concert was produced every couple of weeks. Many contacts have been taken with the Montreux Municipality who was aware and conscious that Montreux, town of music, badly needed a place where "music" could be performed. July, August and September were spent in giving to this place all it needed and the official opening took place on 30th September 1995.
Many artists and bands of all musical styles performed in this hall. Among many let's quote :
Buju Banton, Candy Dulfer, Lofofora, Manu Katché, Max Romeo, Mother Superior, Nada Surf, Sinsemilia, Tryo, The Real McKenzies etc..
Many co-productions were shared with different local partners as "Sound For Unity", who, for example, booked following bands : Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, Guerilla Poubelle, The Tommys. Let's also mention "Skartnak.com" the alternative Montreux Webzine Punk-Hardcore-Metal partner who brought following bands to the NED : Raised Fist, The Black Dahlia Murder, Bridge To Solace, Darkest Hour, Neaera, Break The Silence, Good Clean Fun, Leftöver Crack, Dead To Fall, Cephalic Carnage or Street Bulldogs. And we should not forget the "Montreux Prog Nights Association" who regularly organizes Rock nights there.

Unfortunately, in the course of December 2007, the NED gets the termination of its lease. The proprietor (the bank BCV) wished to sell the building. The futur is, up to now, very uncertain for the NED after 14 years of extensive musical discoveries.
