The Montreux Jazz Festival reminds some of the highlights of this year's edition and underlines the five « Legends », Marcus Miller, Eric Clapton, Steve Gadd, Joe Sample and David Sanborn performing on opening night. The funky Brazilian Carlinhos Brown; a « muy caliente » (very hot) show, put together with a Cuban touch by American trumpet-player Roy Hargrove; an explosive re-discovery of the energetic Earth Wind and Fire who surprised even the most skeptical listeners; a moving tribute to Charles Aznavour and his eight solo guests performing « Mes 50 ans de Chansons »; Pascal Auberson's subtle, astounding interpretation of Hubert Reeves' Big Bang, accompagnied by the Big Band of Lausanne; the remarkable collaboration between Gotthard and Montserrat Caballé; one of this year's discoveries (at the « Montreux Acoustic » concerts): talented pianist Brad Mehldau who worked his way up to the Auditorium Stravinski on July 18; Wide Mouth Mason with young Canadian singer-guitarist Shaun Verreault; the extremely inspiring Jeff Healey who plays his guitar on his lap; fascinating gypsy Goran Bregovic who gave the audience a dose of folklore from Yugoslavia; the eclectic DJ Roni Size who brought music of the future to « Talking Loud » night; the blend of African sounds and jazz with saxophonist David Murray...Here you are,  to name only a few ........
