 Celebrating the 18th anniversary of the Montreux Jazz Festival one of the greatest Jazz musicians of all times : Miles Davis. He gives two concerts. One in the afternoon and one in the evening. They are the best gigs of his whole summer tour. The guitarist Stanley Jordan and the female singer Sade are among the new upcoming artists. Johnny Winter is surrounded by the best Chicago Blues musicians (John Paris bass and Tom Compton drums), the Swiss Band Slapstick, the incomparable Blues singer Van Morrison and BBKing. Luther Allison, Louisiana Red, Robert Cray Band, Muscle Shoals Rhythm section (Roger Hawkins former drummer of the Allman Brothers Band). Stephan Eicher, Elliott Murphy and Chris Rea are on the program July 10. Not to be forgotten : John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra with Bill Evans (sax), Danny Gottlieb (drums), Mitchel Forman (keyboards) and Jonas Hellborg (bass) giving away a solid and perfect Jazz Rock moment to the audience. This same evening, David Sanborn and the United Jazz & Rock Ensemble with musicians as Ian Carr, Albert Mangelsdorff, Charlie Mariano, Volker Kriegel, Eberhard Weber or Jon Hiseman ! Klaus Doldinger and Passport plays Jazz-Rock July 16 and so does Spyro Gyra and the outstanding band called Steps Ahead (were in Montreux in 1982 with the name Steps. Tom Kennedy replaces Eddie Gomez on drums). Egberto Gismonti and Nana Vasconcelos both from Brasil played together and Carla Bley was on stage the same evening with her band. Guitar virtuoso Paco de Lucia plays July 14.
