 For the first time, the Newport and Montreux festivals are held at the same time (from June 29 to July 15). The new Montreux Casino will be ready in 1975 and in the meantime the Festival takes place at the Convention Center. The « Kings » are playing: Freddie & Albert. Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Memphis Slim, Little Milton, John Lee Hooker, and the “Meters” one of the best rythm section from USA complete the Blues program. The impressive Robert Hite with Canned Heat, appreciated by a large public which made them one of the popular acts of the hippie era played July 1 and were seen jamming with Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. Carole King, Teddy Wilson, Stephane Grappelli, Canonball, Nat Adderley, Stomu Yamashta, Chico Hamilton, Larry Coryell, McCoy Tyner, Kenny Clarke, Dexter Gordon, Gene Ammons, Donald Byrd, Horace Silver with Michael and Randy Brecker and the first appearance in Montreux of the genius : Miles Davis and his band, Dave Liebman (tenor sax) Reggie Lucas (guitars), Pete Cosey (guitars) Michael Henderson (bass) Al Foster (drums) and Mtume (percussion) were his sidemen.
