ImageThe Festival grows up. From 8 days it becomes 13 days. Dates are June 16 to 29 at the Montreux Pavillon as the Casino burned down in December 1971. In addition to Jazz,  Blues is very much present as well as Gospel and Soul music with Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Doctor Ross, Jimmy Dawkins, Whispering Smith, T-Bone Walker as a special guest, Koko Taylor, Muddy Waters. Jazz program with Ray Bryant, Stan Getz, Jean-Luc Ponty and Les McCann. Audience discovers Rashaan Roland Kirk an amazing American Jazz multi-instrumentalist, playing tenor saxophone, flute and other reed instruments. He is perhaps best known for his vitality on stage, where virtuoso improvisation was accompanied by comic banter, political ranting and his famous ability to play a number of instruments simultaneously. Oscar Peterson plays solo and Jean-Luc Ponty Experience floats between Jazz and Pop music. Magma the french group with Christian Vander and Klaus Doldinger’s Passport bring Rock, Pop and Fusion notes to the audience in the Pavillon. For the first time, the Montreux Jazz Festival welcomes a large 1000m2 exhibition gathering different musical dealers, manufacturer, producers, whether it be musical instruments, vinyl, or hi-fi equipments.
