1969 is like a musical firework. First of all because the Golden Rose Festival (Rose d’Or in French - annual television broadcasting event) invited, for the first time, some rock bands to perform at their gala evenings, and because of a new Montreux label: Super Pop Montreux
Here are the bands invited at the 1969 Golden Rose:
Free: Along with Cream and Led Zeppelin, FREE stands as one of the most influential bands of the late 1960’s British blues boom. Formed in London during the spring of 1968, Free’s original line-up included drummer Simon Kirke, bassist Andy Fraser, lead vocalist Paul Rodgers and guitarist Paul Kossoff.
Taste, with Rory Gallagher, one of the most respected and able musicians among the blues and rock fraternities, Rory Gallagher managed to maintain both his popularity and his integrity for his entire lengthy career.
Colosseum: was Jon Hiseman’s vehicle for his freedom of musical expression, after both himself and sax player Dick Heckstall-Smith (previously with John Mayall Bluesbreakers) had been firstly in the Graham Bond Organization, (where Hiseman had replaced the Cream bound Ginger Baker). They decided to launch their wings with their own band impressively titled Colosseum in 1969 with the very young David Greenslade on keyboards, Tony Reeves on bass & James Litherland on guitar & vocals.
Savage Rose : is a Danish psychedelic rock group, founded in 1967.
Yes : is an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968 by vocalist Jon Anderson and bassist Chris Squire. Their music is marked by sharp dynamic contrasts, often extended song lengths, esoteric, abstract lyrics, and a general showcasing of its members' instrumental skills. Peter Banks was on guitars, Tony Kaye on keyboards and Bill Bruford on drums.
Le Dutch Swing College Band : Did you know that The Dutch Swing College Band started out as an amateur-college combo on liberation day (1945, May 5th)?
John Bromley : songwriter and musician. He wrote songs for Shirley Bassey, Paul Anka etc
GALA NIGHT: As highlight, an exceptional show from the Musical “HAIR” who flew in the whole crew from England for a unique evening show. The original London tribe included Sonja Kristina, Paul Nicholas, Richard O'Brien, Melba Moore, Elaine Paige, Paul Korda, Marsha Hunt, Floella Benjamin, Alex Harvey and Tim Curry
