This sculpture of Miles Davis has been
created by Bernard Bavaud and is situated just in front of the Auditorium Stravinski by the lake side.

Miles Davis was remarkable not only for his instrumental virtuosity, but also and mainly for his originality. Until 1975, he was a pioneer for nearly all the evolutions of Jazz, very talented for discovering young musicians. His trumpet play was of extreme musical sensitivity and of fragility in the very original sound.

He definitely was a major player in Jazz history. From 1950 to 1970, nearly all the big Jazz musicians worked with him.

On July 8th, 1973, Miles Davis plays for the first time at the Montreux Jazz Festival, with Dave Liebman (saxophone), Pete Cosey and Reggie Lucas (guitars) and Al Foster (drums).

He came back eleven years later, on July 8th, 1984.
On September 28th, 1991, he died at 65.
One of his sayings were : “Why play all these notes when it’s just sufficient to play the most beautiful ones?”
