BB King is born in the Mississippi Delta, USA, in 1925.
He is one of the best and most respected american blues guitarist, composer and singer of all times.
BB King and Montreux – that’s a real love story which began in 1979 and never ended since. He has performed 19 times in Montreux!
But that’s not all: during several years, the King of the Blues has offered his time and kindness by holding “guitar workshops” for the audience of the Montreux Jazz festival. In the middle of the 40th edition of the Festival he declared to the audience that he is not going to tour Europe anymore ! “I gonna miss you” folk. Claude Nobs, who has been invited on stage by BB King, has probably played the most emotional mouth organ solo he never did before.
It’s a tradition in Montreux : the evening rarely ends up without a jam session and this night was a real special dream ! Imagine George Duke and Joe Sample (keyboards), Stanley Clarke (bass), John McLaughlin (guitar), David Sanborn (saxophone) and the vocal section was composed by Randy Crawford, Gladys Knight, Leela James, Earl Thomas and …. Barbara Hendricks on stage. And BB King with his musicians too !
A sculpture of BB King (made by the Italian artist Marco Zeno) is actually in one of the Fairmont Montreux Palace’s gardens not very far away from Ray Charles and Vladimir Nabokov.
