montreuxmusic pays tribute to Michael Jackson artist prodigy who died in US at age 50 on Friday June 26th 2009 and will forever remember his hectic visit to Montreux.

It was on January 12th 1997. He had spent two weeks at the Mountain Studios in the company of David Richards to work the final arrangements for his song "Blood On The Dancefloor". Traveling in the city was difficult for him as hundreds of fans were waiting day and night in front of the Montreux-Palace to see him. Or tried to spot him when he came out of a store where he made some purchases. Some 6 months later, June 20th, 1997 he gave the 3rd concert of his career in Switzerland in Lausanne. A huge show as part of his tour "History" followed by 35,000 fans. Five days later, 55,000 people in Basel acclaimed him for his last concert in Switzerland. Beyond the musical phenomenon, Michael Jackson had become one of the biggest pop stars of the 1980s.

The album "Thriller" will probably always remain the best-selling album of all time with over 60 million copies. So long Michael. Rest in Peace !
